Anaconda was established in 1883 by Marcus Daly who just so happen to be one of the three "Copper Kings" of Butte, Montana. Remnants of this money boom era are still evident throughout the town even to this day. In 1918 a 585-foot-tall brick tower known as the Anaconda Smelter Stack was built and still exists today. If you are traveling on Highway 93 you can see it as you drive by the exit. Here is a fun fact. It stands today as the tallest freestanding brick structure in the world. If you are a skier you will have to add Discover Ski area to one of your snow day adventures.
