🚨A father and son are facing major consequences after a yearlong poaching investigation in Montana uncovered multiple wildlife violations.
🔸️In October 2026, Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks announced that Michael Jason Letasky of Billings and his son, Kolton Letasky of Austin, Texas, had pleaded guilty to several wildlife-related offenses.
🔸️The case resulted in a combined 24 years of hunting suspensions and more than $15,000 in fines and restitution through courts in Wheatland and Musselshell counties. Since Montana participates in the Interstate Wildlife Violator Compact, those hunting bans extend to nearly every state in the country.
🔸️The investigation dates back to September 22, 2025, when two archery hunters in the Little Belt Mountains reported witnessing Michael Letasky shoot a large 6×6 bull elk with a rifle during an archery-only season. The witnesses provided authorities with descriptions of the suspects and their vehicle, helping launch the investigation that eventually led to the guilty pleas.
